JOB TITLE: Loan Officer

REPORTS TO: Location President DATE: 11/01/2025

DEPARTMENT: Lending

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for analyzing loan applications; making loans; monitoring and servicing existing loan customers; making credit decisions; collecting on loans; and marketing the banks services and products.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: College degree in accounting, finance, or business and banking school course work are required. Must have a minimum of four years credit/lending experience. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations and Bank policies and procedures is essential. Analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills and ability to balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously within a limited time frame are also required. Computer skills should include Microsoft Office software. Good organizational, interpersonal, communications, and customer relations skills are required. Attention to detail and mental concentration are necessary for working in a stressful environment, accurately performing tasks, and handling frequent interruptions.

SUPERVISORY DIMENSIONS: Supervises Lending Assistant; oversees loan closing activities performed by Lending Assistant; answers questions and provides guidance on loan documentation issues.

EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Frequent telephone and personal contact with customers; frequent contact with attorneys, credit bureaus, and other banks and financial institutions.

INTERNAL CONTACTS: Frequent telephone and personal contact with lending personnel.

DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES: Determines whether to approve or deny loan applications; grants loans based upon loan policy; answers customer questions; resolves problems and complaints; makes overdraft decisions; and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

  1. Performs lending duties to include:
    a. meeting with existing and potential customers
    b. reviewing loan applications and financial information
    c. analyzing financial ratios, cash flows, and credit history
    d. providing credit counseling
    e. determining whether to approve or deny credit requests
    f. overseeing the preparation of documentation
    g. completing loan closing and credit files
    h. handling denials and withdrawals
    i. handling past due loan and bad debt collections and repossession work to include:
       1. contacting customers by telephone and/or mail
       2. working out payment schedule
       3. contacting collection agency when necessary
       4. repossessing collateral when necessary
    j. monitoring classified loans
    k. protecting the assets of the Bank.
  2. Services accounts relationships to include:
    a. approving various negotiable instruments for deposit
    b. transferring funds
    c. authorizing checks for cashing
    d. determining disposition of daily overdrafts.
  3. Develops new deposit and loan relationships to include:
    a. calling on potential customers and introducing the Bank's products and services
    b. visiting with existing customers regarding their deposits and investments to determine if they have additional needs
    c. visiting with existing customers to obtain potential business referrals
    d. working with customers regarding resolution of complaints and/or problems
    e. establishing and maintaining open communication with customers regarding their needs
    f. attempting to determine new and better ways to market Bank products and services
    g. developing new product recommendations that will generate additional business
    h. ensuring customer satisfaction with Bank products and services
    i. maintaining awareness of and involvement in community and civic activities.
